KartRider: Drift Rep

  • Random crashes and I have to restart my PC.

This happened twice: once while I was going through the Racing school, and one time when I was scrolling through the settings.
The game freezes and nothing happens or response. I try CTRL+ALT+DEL but it doesn't work, ALT+F4 doesn't work. There aren't any errors on screen or something and I have to restart my PC.
It might be because my computer is really old, it is from 2012, I have GTX 670 and i5 3450, 8GB memory. However, last build (Closed Beta 1) game worked perfectly with no crashes.
It seems random so far, I don't know if this a stability issue or on my part. I am playing through the Nexon launcher. Other than that, everything works just fine, actually I have great performance and am really satisfied I can play this game.

  • Hyped for Closed Beta 2. What do you want to see?

I am SO GLAD Nexon keeps going with KartRider. This game has TONS of potential. If you ask me, they need to do TONS of marketing and doing it right. As long as people TRY this game enough, they are sure to be hooked. The original KartRider felt great - the speed, controls, game modes and maps. You had everything - from casual maps and item mode to fast highway SKILL BASED speed racing.

So what are you expectations for Closed Beta 2? Here is mine:
    1. Kart variety and difference improvement - In the first beta, most of the karts felt the same. You build the nitro so fast anyways and almost all Karts had grade above 90 in various characteristics. I hope they worked on making karts feel different. As an example:
Saber series suppose to be the fastest but harder to handle.
Marathon series is based on endurance and you will not be affected by other players as much.
Cotton series excels in drifting but is slower . etc.

    2. Maps - I am looking to see fan favorite maps come back like Pyramid mesa. KartRider has LOTS of map variety which is great. From deserts and forests to space. What maps are you looking for?

    3. License and custom lobbies coming back - Hopping for a quick game is nice, and this is probably the right choice in this era to give up on lobbies. I do still wish for some social interaction - So I can see my character and kart. Maybe lobbies similar to how Mario Kart works with a voting system?

  • Drifting and boost gain, and kart feedback.

I must say drifting feels great and just like how I remember it to be from the original KartRider NA beta back then.

However, there's a few things I'd like to point out:

    - Having some of your nitro fill automatically beats the whole purpose of drifting. I understand this is just to help fill the last bit of your meter, or help you in "dead" maps where there are not many corners etc. You should always be encouraged to drift and find a solution.

    - Your nitro meter fills too quickly with the very basic Karts, making it irrelevant which kart you should pick and also the whole tier-tree the original game had irrelevant.

    - Karts stats are too similar, If they all obtain nitro in the same rate it makes the whole system useless. I want to see it a bit like the original KartRider where first we series A,B,C for the karts.
In short, the beginning of the game should be slower - not gaining a nitro every second drift. Continuous boosting, Double-boost, all such things become irrelevant when you just acquire Nitro that quickly. Those things defined skilled players from others back in the original beta.

Eventually we will hit those high-tier karts and then it would be fine. I know there are things like SR engines and such, but right now everything needs to be slower. Trash the basic karts! I want you to make me feel like I need to gain better karts! I felt no difference between playing with the Turtle Kart or the Cotton Kart. Make the difference. Cotton excelled in drifting but was slower, Marathon series was steady and could easily push others, Saber series was the fastest but harder to handle. Those things needs to matter and come back.

What's the point if all the karts hit the 90s and 100 in their stats? make them go from very 0 to 100.

  • I'm so excited for this!

I used to play this game 12 years ago! I am 25 now. Back then when the Beta was over, Nexon kept us in the shadows. No announcement or news about the game's future. I was so mad and I'll never forgive them for this. I was waiting and waiting and waiting and no news came!

However, I can't be more excited for this. The speed mode is SOOOOOOOOOO much fun. Drifting and gathering speed felt great. I never played the likes of Mario Kart, but all I can say is that drifting required SKILL in this game. Drifting is needed in order to get Nitro (Boost).
Also after each drift you make, if done properly - you get a small boost as well. There were all kind "boosts" you could make such as a double boost.

There were different karts, each had their own unique properties (as an example, the Saber series was the fastest but harder to control. Another series had better drifting mechanics but was slower).

The game did have some sort of progression. You level up - and after a certain level is reached you could unlock a new "license" to that next tier which had harder maps to play on.
There were also different game modes and events. I remember Scenario which was a PvE singleplayer story basically.

The only downside is the game was heavily Pay 2 Win. You could buy karts with real money and also buy certain karts with in-game currency, but only for a certain amount of time. I don't mind grinding a bit if it means I'll get to keep the kart forever as a reward. They need to carefully balance this, I don't think the western audience is the same as the one in Korea.

Hopefully they'll bring some of the core maps back.

If this stays loyal to the source, it can be one of the best racing games out there. No, it WILL be - make it happen, Nexon. My PC is 8 years old, I may need to upgrade just for this game! I did not get accepted for the closed beta yet, hopefully I'll get in.
